Yorkshire and the Humber

In redistricting, Yorks/Humber on October 12, 2011 by dadge

On Thursday and Friday there are public hearings in Leeds about the proposed changes to parliamentary constituencies. Here’s my overview of the region, which has been allocated 50 seats.

councils – electorate – theoretical entitlement – seats allocated – average seat size

Humberside 688,722 > 8.99 > 9 @ 76,525

York 150,781 > 1.97 > 2 @ 75,391

North Yorkshire 457,932 > 5.98 > 6 @ 76,322

Leeds 545,338 > 7.12 > 7 @ 77,905

Bradford & Calderdale 475,121 > 6.20 > 6 @ 79,187

Kirklees 304,578 > 3.97 > 4 @ 76,145

Wakefield, Barnsley, Doncaster & Rotherham 839,958 > 10.96 > 11 @ 76,360

Sheffield 386,512 > 5.04 > 5 @ 77,302

Looking down that list, the only tricky area appears to be Bradford & Calderdale, which might have to give a ward to Kirklees. We’ll see…

Here’s the Commission’s proposals.
