2023 review: Gloucestershire & Bristol

In News on March 10, 2021 by dadge Tagged: ,

Taken together, the area is entitled to 14 seats. There are (at least) two ways of dealing with Cheltenham and Gloucester; ditto Greater Bristol. The two below proposals give some meat to chew on.

Version 1

The Cotswolds constituency has the same boundaries as Cotswold council. Quedgeley (the south end of Gloucester) is in the Stroud seat. The changes in and around Bristol aren’t huge, but the Yate seat contains bits and pieces from the urban areas outside the city. It’d be nice to keep all of the Filton/Bradley Stoke area together (in the new north Bristol seat) but the total electorate would be too large.

Current seats shown in green outline. Proposed seats shown in blocks of colour.
  • Forest of Dean* 71,510
  • Tewkesbury 74,981 – includes Pittville
  • Cheltenham 70,997
  • Gloucester 75,488
  • Cotswolds 71,234
  • Stroud 72,522 – includes Brockworth and Quedgeley
  • Thornbury & Cam 72,529 – includes Minchinhampton, Wotton and Almondsbury
  • Yate 76,300 – includes Downend and Stoke Gifford
  • Kingswood 75,879
  • Bristol North 71,443 – includes Filton and Patchway
  • Bristol NW 74,831 – includes Bishopston
  • Bristol Central 75,088 – includes Southville
  • Bristol East* 74,385
  • Bristol South 74,856

Version 2

Charlton Kings (the east side of Cheltenham) is part of the Cotswolds seat. Tetbury, Cam and Yate are in a seat together. There are bigger changes in Bristol; north east Bristol forms a seat with Mangotsfield and some of the villages. I’ve named this seat after W G Grace.

  • Forest of Dean* 71,510
  • Tewkesbury 73,810 – includes Kingsholm
  • Cheltenham 75,908 – includes Prestbury
  • Gloucester 72,131
  • Cotswolds 76,774 – includes Charlton Kings
  • Stroud 72,647 – includes Brockworth
  • Wotton (Dursley, Tetbury & Yate) 72,089
